THE ARTIST

Indrani Royan, affectionately now known as ‘Rani’ by her patrons, hails from Assam, and moved to Bangalore after her marriage. In a completely new city, she wanted to find something to help her passion reach new heights, and so in September 2013, Rani Pink was born.

In her early years in Kolkata, before graduating from Pearl Academy in Delhi, she dabbled into music, but soon discovered the one thing that burns the fire in her belly—fashion. She has always been enthralled with the vibrancy of colors and the textures of fabrics. Ergo, she began Rani Pink with customised lehengas, but soon gravitated towards the vivacity of the South Indian bride.

This is where Rani Pink began thriving and made Indrani a household name—she incorporated her inspiration from Kanjeevaram sarees, jewellery influenced by temple architecture, and all the hues, tints and tones of different materials unique to the vivid South.

The recurring themes in her work are deeply rooted in tradition; her focal point has arrived at bridalwear for muhurtham—integrating a plethora of auspicious customary motifs of garuda, peacocks, elephants, lions and the likes. Apart from muhurtham, she also helps brides don conventional pieces for other festivities influenced by Oscar de la Renta.

All her pieces are an objet d’art of their own—an intimate dance of creation between the nooks of her private studio, and the incredible workmanship of her zari craftsmen from Kolkata.

Her vision is uncomplicated—to continue being a part of some of the most significant events of her patrons’ lives, through Rani Pink.
